The Self-Harmony of the Bible - 1 (Part Four)

Is God a Readily Found Refuge?
Psalms 46:1 (NIV) states: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble," and Proverbs 1:28 (ESV) states: “Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer.” To some this is a clear contradiction, but the context disproves that idea.
The Psalmist wrote “God is our refuge” not "God is a refuge for everyone." Instead he meant that God is a refuge for the godly or humble. Proverbs 1:28 on the other hand addresses those who "hated knowledge, and [who] did not chose to fear Jehovah." (Proverbs 1:29 NWTWhen urged to repent they did not, so Jehovah did not help them when they needed help (Proverbs 1:20-33). We see then that, though God extends mercy to sinners for a time, he is only a refuge to the loyal.

Does God or Satan Cause Sickness?
According to skeptics Numbers 11:33 shows that God causes all sickness, yet Job 2:7 shows that Satan does. Do these verses contradict each other? No, for they refer to specific instances, not to sickness in general. At the account in Numbers Jehovah is punishing some Israelites for their selfish longing and murmuring. Job 2:7 is just Satan afflicting Job to test him. Since these are not mutually exclusive there is no contradiction.
